How to Use the TOPDON BT100 Battery Tester

A marginal battery causes no-start complaints, slow cranking, and misleading sensor codes across multiple modules. The TOPDON BT100 Pro performs 100–2000 CCA load tests on 12V batteries in under a minute — no shop visit required.

Step 1: Connect Clamps

With the engine off and loads minimized, attach the red clamp to the positive terminal and the black clamp to negative. Ensure good contact on clean terminals.

Step 2: Select Battery Type

Choose flooded, AGM flat plate, AGM spiral, or gel on the tester menu. Using the wrong chemistry setting skews CCA results.

Step 3: Run Load Test

Enter rated CCA from the battery label if prompted. The BT100 applies a load and displays measured CCA, voltage, internal resistance, and a replace/recharge/good verdict.

Reading the Results

Healthy batteries show CCA close to the rating plate, stable voltage under load, and a "good" or "charge" recommendation. Replace when CCA falls well below spec, internal resistance is high, or the battery fails repeatedly after a full charge.

Pair with a Scanner

Some TOPDON tools combine OBD2 and battery testing — see the battery testers category and our BT100 deep-dive guide. For scan-only work, pair BT100 with an AL400 or TopScan.
